Costa Mesa signs off on slimmed-down Fairview redevelopment project

Costa Mesa officials settled on a scaled-back redevelopment plan for the former Fairview Developmental Center. The City Council voted unanimously to approve 2,300 homes on the 80-acre site at 2501 Harbor Boulevard after years of debate over density, affordability and neighborhood impacts, the Orange County Register reported. The plans call for 920 affordable units, 15,000 square feet of commercial space and 25 acres of open space.  The approved housing count is well below the 4,000-unit capacity envisioned earlier.
