Jordan Kaplan backs Xavier Becerra’s run for California governor
Another Southern California real estate backer of Matt Mahan has switched to Xavier Becerra. Douglas Emmett Chair and CEO Jordan Kaplan last week donated the one-time maximum of $39,200 to Becerra’s run for California governor, campaign finance records show. The Santa Monica-based REIT, which reports earnings next month, did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Kaplan previously gave $78,400 to Mahan’s campaign for governor before the San Jose mayor — the favorite of L.A.’s real estate circle and Silicon Valley — failed to make it past the June primary despite his roster of wealthy backers.
