Fluid forms and curved geometries define this art-filled residence in New Delhi, designed by architecture practice Spaces Architects Ka.

The 9,000-square-foot (836-square-metre) house is located in the upscale residential neighbourhood of Ashok Vihar.

Named The Art House, the four-bedroom family home was built for a client who desired "something that no one has ever seen before".

"This became the starting point for a design approach that rejects familiar typologies and instead builds a highly curated living environment," Spaces Architects Ka explained.

Guided by the bespoke art pieces created for the client, the studio aimed to fuse art with architecture by developing soft, fluid forms for the interior and exterior.

"The defining gesture of the residence is its fluid sculptural language, where curved forms dissolve boundaries between architecture, interiors, art, and light, allowing the house to feel less like a built object and more like an immersive living experience," Spaces Architects Ka founder Kapil Aggarwal told Dezeen.

"The house is defined by an intense level of customisation, where lighting, furniture, artworks, carpets and surface details are individually designed, sketched, and developed specifically for this project," the studio said.

Rather than going for an open-plan layout, the architects chose to organise the residence such that the spaces "unfold layer by layer rather than revealing themselves all at once", it said.

The Art House is organised across six storeys – a basement, a ground-level parking and entrance area and two levels of core residential spaces, followed by two terrace levels.

In the basement, the team created a bar area and a double-height lounge defined by curved geometries in the form of niches, artwork, false ceiling features and built-in furniture.

Soft grey tones cover the space, paired with black and electric blue accents.

On the ground floor, Spaces Architects Ka planned a parking area complemented with a service room, entrance lobby and an elevator and staircase connecting the various levels.

A lounge and dining area anchor the first floor, which also features an open kitchen and a pair of bedrooms dotted with custom art and furniture.

Upstairs, on the second floor, the studio planned a pair of bedrooms, a pantry and a double-height living room wrapped by an L-shaped verandah on two sides.

Spaces Architects Ka combined artwork made in-house in collaboration with artisans and a sculptural light fabricated by lighting brand Emanate Home to create a double-height installation that hangs over the living area.

On the veranda, an outdoor staircase links the second floor to a party lounge and a penultimate terrace, which is linked to the upper terrace with a bright orange spiral staircase.

There is also a party lounge, where Spaces Architects Ka installed a jacuzzi topped by a colourful tensile fabric ceiling installation developed in collaboration with Divinam Structuray.

Overall, the studio chose pared-back colours and textures for the interiors to create a muted base for the artwork.

The sculptural design scheme of the interiors was also echoed in the exterior form of the residence, which is characterised by soft edges and geometric cutouts.

"The Art House is conceived as a fully curated living canvas where architecture, art, and emotion come together to create a home that feels deeply individual and unlike anything experienced before," Aggarwal commented.

Spaces Architects Ka is a New Delhi-based architecture practice founded by Aggarwal in 2012.

Other art-filled spaces recently featured on Dezeen include fashion brand Acne Studios' Paris headquarters and designer Sheila Man's Bali guesthouse.
