A century-old movie palace in Westlake could get a second act as a community arts center, but its would-be saviors first have to raise millions and figure out how to preserve the past without displacing the present. Los Angeles nonprofit theater company Strindberg Laboratory is planning the acquisition and revival of the Westlake Theatre, a 1,949-seat auditorium across from MacArthur Park at 634-642 South Alvarado Street, with plans to restore the historic space for live performances, film screenings, workshops, lectures, neighborhood meetings and offices for community organizations, the L.A.
